What is JRF?

The full form of JRF is “Junior Research Fellowship”. It’s a fellowship scheme by the University Grants Commission which is provided by universities/institutions/colleges to the students who qualify the exams like CSIR NET, UGC NET, etc.

The main objective of the Junior Research Fellowship scheme is to provide opportunities to the candidates to undertake advanced studies and research leading to M.Phil/Ph.D Degree.

Candidates who clear the NET/CSIR exam should enroll for M.Phil/PhD programme within two years of receiving the certificate. Candidates will only get the fellowship after joining.

Fellowship Amount & Tenure

Those who clear the CSIR NET or UGC NET Exam will get INR 31000 per month (+ House Rent Allowance) as Junior Research Fellowship.

Initially, the fellowship will be awarded for two years. After the ending of these two years, the research work done by the candidates will be examined by the experts.  If the experts will get satisfied with your work, then the tenure will be extended to 3 more years and the stipend will also get an increase under the grants of Senior Research Fellowship (SRF).

In the case, when experts will not be satisfied with your work, they will extend your JRF tenure one more year for the improvement. Then your research work will again evaluate. If your work is appreciated by the experts, then you can get two years extension of SRF.

The complete tenure of the fellowship will be 5 years (2 years as JRF + 3 Years as SRF).
